Build a canvas
Describe a dashboard in plain English and Iris builds a canvas of widgets from live data.
Describe the canvas you want and Iris builds it, choosing the widgets, grouping, and time range.
Build a canvas with Iris
Open Build a canvas
On Iris home, select Build a canvas in the composer.
Choose a depth
The depth controls how many widgets you get:
| Depth | Canvas size |
|---|---|
| Low | 1–2 widgets. Short and fast. |
| Med | 3–5 widgets and a note. |
| High | 6–12 widgets with findings and actions. Slower. |
Describe it
Type a description and select Build. Be specific about the measure, the grouping, and the time range:
- GPU spend by team, last 30 days
- Monthly AI cost by model and account
- AWS vs Azure by month, this year
Review and refine
The canvas opens with the Iris panel beside it. Ask Iris to add, remove, or change widgets, or edit them yourself with the widget builder.
Start from an empty canvas
In the Canvases tab, select New canvas and choose to start empty. Then use Add widget → Build manually. See Widget builder.
Tips for good descriptions
- Name the measure: cost, forecast, savings, resource count.
- Name the grouping: by team, by account, by model, by region.
- Name the time range: last 30 days, this quarter, month over month.
- Name the scope when it matters: prod accounts only, Bedrock models, EKS clusters.
- Ask for a comparison when you want change: vs previous month.
